The energy of authenticity

February 12th, 2009

Last night I had a full sensory experience of the energy generated by authenticity.

I was a speaker on a panel about writing. One of the audience members who spoke with me after was telling me about a final year project (she’s a university student) that she is working on. And the more she talked, the more she buzzed. There was litterly energy radiating off of her - she was smiling, her voice was vibrant, she was almost bouncing as she described her ideas and how excited she is about her project.

Turns out she has had to face some scepticism about her choice of project - but she knew what she wanted to do and has persevered and continued to be true to her own interests.

When I was talking about my writing, I had shared a bit about what motivates me to write, specifically my concern about job search advice that encourages us to be less, rather than more, authentic. She was so thankful to hear someone saying things that supported her own beliefs and decisions.

We had such a lovely (and energetic) chat.
